I think the best solution is for Ms. Phillips, or someone in the community to contact the press (BBC).
I am still going to Kuwait to teach, but this news is miserable...it could happen to any of us.

The postings about this teacher are not a joke. It has been in the press here, and has been forwarded to press corps outside the country. A good friend of mine has been in direct contact with her. The parents used "wasta" to place a travel ban on her. A police report was filed against her, and she was never notified. The administration of her school has left for the summer without offering any assistance. Our embassy is not willing to anger the Kuwaitis. I have been here teaching for 7 years. The country is changing, and not for the better. Teachers are now routinely ordered to change grades, disregard rules and "shelve" their professional and ethical standards. If any parent is able to do this to teachers here, it is a very sad day for Kuwait and the state of their educational institutes. The only way we can fight this now is through more "wasta" or direct pressure from the media. Most teachers are gone now for the summer and can not help within Kuwait. You can also read about her story in the Kuwaiti Arab Times. Our only power now as teachers is to spread her story far and wide and hopefully shame the Kuwaiti govenment into letting her out of the country, in order to quiet the negative press.
