I hear that there is a decent number of Brazilian ex-pats living in areas of Japan. Is this true? I am half Brazilian, I once in a great while visit my mom's family in Sao Paolo, so finding other brazilians in Japan would be awesome. I know there are a lot of Japanese in Brazil though, lots. I mean it wouldnt hurt to celebrate Carnaval with some brasileiros. |

One of the Japanese people I work for told me that certain towns have a lot of Brazilians...but I have only seen a few and have only had a conversation with one...so they are there but maybe not everywhere like you would think... |

Yeah, there have been reports of one or two Brazilians having been spotted in Japan. |

A lot of Brazilians (and other South Americans for that matter) appear to be employed by Japanese car manufacturers. I remember coming across quite a few in Kanagawa who worked for Nissan or Isuzu, and some in Hiroshima, working for Mazda.
Also, although I don't know much about the area, there are supposed to be a lot in Aichi Prefecture, presumably because of Toyota. |

Aichi, Mie, Gifu especially the parts close to Nagoya is Brazilian central. In Toyota city itself the second language is Portugese not English., There are Brazilian restaurants, food stores, butchers (yes, yes real steak, cut to order!!!) boutiques, luncheros(sp?), tattoo parlours, schools etc. It is a nice alternative to mainstream Japan. |

There are major Brazilian communities in many areas in Japan. My area isn't even a central one for Brazilians, but we have Brazilian bars and dance clubs, food stores, etc. In the summer one of the best ways to spend an afternoon is at a Brazilian BBQ! And if you go to Toyota City or Hamamatsu, etc, you'll feel like you're in little Sao Paulo.
By the way, these communities didn't happen by accident. There is a long and interesting history of immigration between Japan and Brazil. You should look into it before you come over here. |

There are also many in Shizuoka-ken, Hyogo-ken, and Shiga-ken. They go to the areas with factory jobs. I speak Portuguese and have met a few in Kobe. |

Come to Hamamatsu. The greater Hamamatsu area has nearly 20,000 Brazilians, according to City Hall. We have Brazilian supermarkets, restaurants, schools, churches and so on. I'm not Brazilian, so I only see these outward signs of Brazilian life, but a community that large must have a thriving mirror-culture of clubs and organisations etc. |

There are apparently around 600 Brazilians where I live.
And maybe 15 white foreigners.
And the rest are Japanese and possibly others I do not know about. |

It may have the highest number of ethnic jpanese outside Japan but from my perspective, they are not Japanese, they are Brazilian. That goes for any any country, all the "I'm Chinese Canadian" " I'm.... ......", irritates me.
The largest number of japanese nationals outside of Japan is in Shanghai and then next is Bangkok. |
