I think 20-30K is good. But it depends on if they throw in housing, take care of taxes, etc.

There's a big difference in 20 - 30,000.

I'm living in the CR, and have been around for more than ten years now.

But I'm not going to try to respond to this question because I don't teach in Prague, nor do I currently have any friends working as newbies there, and so I'm not going to claim to know the current standard for newbies in Prague.

Sure, it's somewhere between 20 and 30,000 monthly, if that's useful to you.

But I expect others with more specific info will be around!! Shocked

New info. I asked around today in Prague and 17,000 - 21,000 in hand monthly after taxes is about the going rate. No housing included.

Just to let you know for comparison sake....

When I first got to C.R. in 1993, I made / cleared in hand, about 7,000 .

When I left, I got 10,000 . That was around 2001. Apt included in that was net with health and taxes covered.

I worked in Prague for 16 months and if your working around 25 hours you should expect around 17-19k per month after tax. Prague is saturated with teachers who arent serious...people travelling etc and working for a few months. So its easy for these schools to hire. 17-19k is ok if you find a decent place to live. You should research before you come and find a flat for around 6k p/m because most new people (including me) end up spending 10k+ p/m which leaves you with very little. Plus many schools in Prague are just businesses and it can get really tedious teaching all the business students who are just happy for an hour off work...though this is everywhere i suppose. Try and find a public school.

I now live and work outside Prague...in a small town 1 hour north. The pay is 26k after tax....and its much cheaper to live here...rent 4500kc including bills and its my own place Smile

I was teaching about 20 hours a week only a year ago, teaching 4 days a week, and was making 19-23k/month after taxes. This is more than enough to live comfortably on, but it doesn't amount to much outside of CR.

Oh, and like mentioned above, do some research and buddy up with some people (I had a couple of great Czech roommates) for 6k or less a month. Many foreigners screw up on this part and put a huge part of their monthly pay unnecessarily in rent/utilities.

Oh, and never take below 200cr per 45/60 min. Actually, you can do better than that. All of my first jobs were 250-300cr per 45/60 min. Many teachers settle for the first full-time position they get offered for 200cr... look around, be patient, and be professional. You'll do just fine.
