Hi

I will be teaching English in Brno starting next month, until at least summer 2008 and really need some advice on insurance.

I am from Scotland and therefore have an E111 card for reciprocal healthcare while in the CR, but am undecided as to whether or not I should buy travel insurance aswell. Seems a bit strange as I won't actually be travelling as such, but obviously I will be living outside of my home country...

I have heard about companies that offer insurance for TEFL teachers, but am having a hard time finding any such companies on the net.

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I am aware, the E111 card is only good for emergency treatment (as a result of injury sustained whilst in the CZ). For day-to-day healthcare (including some dental) you will need health insurance.

Incidentally, the Czech healthcare system is on a pretty good level and the 1 operation on my ear (which I was very nervous about going through), went smoothly and the surgeon and assistants were very professional.
No long waiting list, unlike in the UK, and although the operating room looked a little like a stage scene from an Orwellian 1984 novel chaper it did go well and I was fully covered through my OZP insurance.
Some dental is also covered and to have a wisdon tooth extracted last year set me back just 500 CZK (for the whole procedure inclusive).
500 CZK is approx 12 Pounds fifty pence.
