I have a Z-Visa which says duration of stay: 000
I also have a Residence Permit which expires on July 15th, 2009.
My Foreign Expert Certificate expires in January of 2010.
My new job in another Province does not begin until August 17th, 2009.
Can I stay in China during the summer break? The only thing my current school gave me was a release letter. Is that all I need? |

Only your resident's permit is relevant in this matter. |

Yes you must leave China.
However, you could go to the PSB and apply for a tourist visa (30 days although longer would be better if possible) before 15 July to allow you to stay in China. Get in touch with your new employer and get them to start the process of applying for your new FEC and Residency Permit at least a week before your tourist visa expires.
Whatever, take a local person, your passport and Letter of Release with you to the PSB and explain your situation.
Hope this helps. |

You have a month. You could, if at all possible, try to get the new employer to get your RP taken care of now. Ask them, explain how it will be a pain. They might be able to get it in before they go on break. It will be the same cost to them and less cost to you. They should want to do it, assuming you've signed the contract, but you would have to go to the other province in person for it I believe. What province to what province if I may intrude on your personal situation? |
