I would advise you to stay away from it.

I was offered a job there back in 2003, and the person who hired me, an Irish fellow, himself was trying to dissuade me from joining!

He said the students have a real nasty attitude, they will sleep in class, or read a newspaper, etc, and you can't really say anything to them, because they will show you who is boss, especially if you are inferior to them, i.e., brown-skinned, as I am.

They are known for slashing tyres and breaking windows of faculty cars, and this was confirmed to me after I joined another school in Jeddah, and I had a student in class who used to go to Dar Al Fikr. He told me he himself vandalized cars of teachers he didn't like.

These are super-rich super-spoilt Saudis. They pay close to SR 50,000 per year (or is it per term?), and so don't take any disciplining from anybody.

Of course if you are teaching kids under 12 or so, it should be OK.

Only schools worth teaching in, in Jeddah, are:

Jeddah Prep & Grammar School
Continental School (British Int. School)
American Int. School

And then I guess also:

French School
German School
Korean School
Turkish School
Greek School etc.

I have no clue about the students or the working conditions at the second set of schools I listed, but I assume they would be better than any generic international school, and especially better than any Saudi private school, such as Dar Al Fikr.

P.S. About salary, again, Dar Al Fikr utterly fails. I was offered 6,000/month there (or maybe 5,000), whereas I was offered 8,000/month at one of the 3 schools I listed as good, elsewhere in this post. And if 8,000 seems less, that's only because I was a new teacher, with zero experience. Experienced (and UK/US/AU/NZ qualified) teachers get anywhere between 11,000 and 15,000 per month at those 3 schools. White-skinned teachers reportedly get 9,000/month at Dar Al Fikr, which again, pales in comparison to the other 3.

Perhaps you should have found out more about the Irish guy himself. Why did he stay in the school for so long if it was so bad? How much did he benefit from contacts with the spoilt kids?

He said the students have a real nasty attitude, they will sleep in class, or read a newspaper, etc, and you can't really say anything to them, because they will show you who is boss, especially if you are inferior to them, i.e., brown-skinned, as I am.
reading newspapers? lol
It's a shame that you listened to this person. Did you know that the principal is brown-skinned and well respected by the students?

Does that mean all the students do this? How often have these incidents occurred?
These are super-rich super-spoilt Saudis. They pay close to SR 50,000 per year (or is it per term?), and so don't take any disciplining from anybody. There are also super rich, super intelligent students in the school. Give credit wheer credit is due.

Of course if you are teaching kids under 12 or so, it should be OK.

Only schools worth teaching in, in Jeddah, are:

Jeddah Prep & Grammar School- sorry but things are not too good since the principle had a heart attack (some of their teachers are trying to get into Dar Al Fikr)
Continental School (British Int. School) - perhaps the best that you can find
American Int. School - highly decadant

And then I guess also:

French School
German School
Korean School
Turkish School
Greek School etc.

YOu should have visited Dar Al Fikr, I was fortunate to it is one of the best resourced schools in the world; it doesn't have a swimming pool because the students usually have one at home but as far as technology is concerned it is better than all the international and Saudi Private schools.
P.S. About salary, again, Dar Al Fikr utterly fails. Dar Al Fikr has a pay scale unlike most schools in Jeddah, it is based on experience and qualifications not on skin color.
It seems that the Irish guy gave you a complex shame about that. Crying or Very sad
