Anyone taught or know anyone who taught in Papua?
It seems as though the only jobs are teaching the children of miners in small rural communities. I'd like to find out more about these positions.
I just want to be really outback for a year
Cheers,

International schools, and aid positions through governmental and semi-governmental agencies, particularly Australian. There are probably also various Christian projects. I doubt if there's any independent ESL market such as in other countries. PNGs tertiary and technical sectors may be worth investigating. Again, they're probably Australian government supported.

Don't confuse the word "volunteer" with "working for nothing". |

I have taught in PNG. Initially I was a VSO volunteer and then I worked for the IEA, and then for the school itself, in an international school.
As the previous poster pointed out, there are no real opportunities for ESL teaching as the medium of instruction in high schools is English. There are jobs with IEA but they need people with teaching experience and qualifications.
I really enjoyed my time teaching in PNG and it is definitely an experience! |
