Hi All,

I'm new to this so please excuse the questions.

Firstly, Does anyone have any experiences or recommendations about working with Lorna Whiston language centre in KL?

Next question, When everyone is talking about their wages on here. Is that before or after tax??

I am weighing up my options at the moment. I am a teacher but my husband is an engineer. Not sure if KL is the best place for us. What does everyone think??

Wages here are qouted before tax, although, knowing Malaysia quite well, not everyone pays it...

Lorna Winston has a good reputation in Singapore, so I can only imagine they would potentially make a good employer in KL

Salaries are not inspiring in Malaysia, but it is a great country to live in

Your husband should be able to get work and a high salary as an engineer, which means you can get the dependent spouse visa. this means you can work part time and see what school you like best before committing to a full contract.

The tax is very low and you don't start paying it until you get a work permit, which can take anywhere between 2 to 6 months.

Most engineers I know get high salaries and some really nice apartments thrown in for free. Add in his expat allowances etc and you can both very well on the two incomes.

Does anybody know how much tax I should expect to get on 8,000 per month? I read somewhere that it's 24% !!!! please don't tell me this is the case.

Your tax should be between 7-9%. To be taxed at 24% you'd have to be pulling in RM 100,000 per month and have Dato' before your name.
