Just wondering whether there's anyone who has any sort of joint problem(spare the weed jokes) in the UAE.

I had RA as a child and still have the occasional small flare-up now and then - usually in sudden changes in humidity or dampness. Does anyone have RA and have a problem with the climate? I'm possibly going to Abu Dhabi and I'm a bit worried about the humidity levels - I definitely feel a lot better in a dry climate. (I'm wondering how HCT would feel if I asked to move to an inland city because of this?)

Also, is the healthcare generally okay and would everything be covered by the HCT package (including monthly blood tests and specific medications)?

Thanks for any help with this - it's pretty much a deciding factor for me.

Have you told HCT that you have this condition? I'm not sure that the health cover includes pre-exisiting conditions so you should check with them. There's been 80% humidity in Dubai recently, probably Abu Dhabi is the same and August is usually worse. I haven't heard of anyone asking to be moved for health reasons although I know that people have been refused contract renewal due to ill health. Checking the health cover before you leave home is the best option, especially if you need ongoing checks.

I would say that you should avoid the coastal cities. The humidity ranges from high to VERY HIGH for the year.

Afra is right to suggest that you find out about the medical coverage. I would also suggest that Al-Ain is probably the best choice as it is inland and the humidity levels would low and stable.

I asked about Al-Ain in the interview - it definitely looks like the best option for me.

I have arthritis in the knees and hips. I too have problems with humidity/air pressure and I hated living in Abu Dhabi. A lot of people with joint problems (partcularly those from colder/drier climates) have difficulty in the coastal cities as the humidity is unrelenting. I think you will be much better off in Al Ain. It is much drier. Remember not to make too much of an issue about your health at first as it may hinder your job prospects. People won't want to hire you if they see you as a health risk. Request Al Ain and see what happens. Also, don't worry if you don't get it a first as you may be able to transfer later. UAEU might be an option as well. They are located in Al Ain.
