Hola!

I am the idiot who wrote "Foreigners know your place!" To say that I was drunk when I penned that masterpiece would be an understatement. I have decided to get sober and get my head out of my a s s.

1.) I really am getting tired of teaching English. I can either teach at a public university for little money, or work for one of those "for profit" language schools where I have to keep up appearances all the time, for fear of having my hours cut.

2.) I am getting sick of my wife, who lays on her hind end until noon then plays Mah Jongg all night. She has done many good things for me, but she will not change who she is. Besides, it is difficult to take her to any country that I choose to work in. The USA denied her a visitor visa to see my family last year, causing me great anger towards my home country.

3.) The only places to make good money in this profession is to work in the Middle East or Japan. , the ME would be difficult, because as I said the money is good and they mostly require a Masters to go there............

4.) On Japan, I have discovered that it is a real pain in the backside to get hired, from inside China. The schools want to interview people from the USA, Canada or inside Japan proper. I really do not have the money to beg for employment on the streets of Tokyo, Osaka or anywhere else.

5.) I want to get a certification like a TESOL, but these schools are making me jump hoops and write essays to get into their program, not to mention the expense, but I do feel that it would be valuable to me if I continue teaching English.

6.) I had an interview several weeks ago with a school. The interview was in a Starbucks, and when I was escorted upstairs, I see this big white American guy. So, I have to do an American style interview with all the dippy psychological questions and BS. The guy said he would call me for a second interview, but never called me back.

7.) Being in Asia used to be an adventure, and now it is a boring drag. I live in a city where I am the only foreigner. Most of the people here are nice, but some MF today called me a pig, but the MF kind of hid and would not show himself. I have learned here that Chinese men are wimpish, little trolls. This is why the women want to marry foreign men. Then the women turn out to be boors themselves (like my wife.)

8.) I worked for a "chain" school that stabbed me in the back by hiring more staff and cutting my hours. Probably thinking about that DOS and the interview guy just hacked me off.

I'm going on a holiday. I am going to Shanghai to a friend and eat Mexican food, then take the train to Beijing to see a former teacher that I worked with two years ago. Thank Mao, I have money (hidden away from the gambler).

I will return, but under a different name. Hopefully, I'll have my head out of my behind and trod forward.

Hey Senor,
I hope you can turn things around. I'm glad you're being honest with yourself. If you want to do more schooling, face the fact that you're going to have to jump through hoops and play their games.

senor boogie woogie

I posted earlier today on this forum regarding Korea. I know that it gets a bad rap, but there are good jobs here, with good pay, and free housing. If you listened to the naysayers on the Korea forum, you would think that this place is hell. My question to them is, "if it is really so bad here, why don't you leave." They don't. Why? Because they make good money, have a low cost of living, party like hell, and have bucks in the bank.

If you look into jobs from here, and there is some interest, run it by the board to make sure there is no real bad news about the company.

I am happy here in Korea, and make and save good money. There are bad jobs here, for sure, but just check things out before you sign the contract.

Okay. It's good that you know this but your students probably already do know this and any bosses you have, if they are worth their weight, probably know it too. It's going to affect your teaching a great deal and it might be difficult to pull out of this tailspin if it goes too far.

If I were you and it's possible, I'd speak to your boss/es frankly about this and ask them if they have any advice or perhaps could cut you some slack.

of course, this may be useless advice depending on your situation but, heck, I thought it might be worth sharing

As for the wife, I don't think this forum is the place to talk about this kind of stuff so I would strongly recommend this one:
http://www.marriagebuilders.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi
which has been very helpful to us and many others to build our marriages.

Hey Senor!

It takes some courage to put up a post like yours here. I made some comments on your original thread and will now pull them down. Sorry if I added to your woes and I really hope it all works out well for you.

Cheers,

CS

So Mr. Boogie,

Will your wife be helping you by picking up some of the slack as the BOTH of you navigate through some readjustments in life? It sounds as though it is only fair that she begin to get her butt out of bed and work in support of as opposed to the detriment of your sanity and the sanctity of your union! This is Asia for christ' sake and she is Asian and you are struggling? WTF? Im not saying that she is in any way to blame for what you have described but you seem to ignore that fact that you have an ASIAN PARTNER while the both of you are RESIDING IN ASIA and it seems to this old boy that she could do more to assist you than just gamble!

Humbly yours,

Hi Senor,
I think a holiday is a great idea, I just came back from one recently and was feeling a bit like you but now I am back and gungho until my next holiday.
I thought your post was great, honesty is so refreshing, perhaps because we don't hear it that often.
I think you flamed me once about being a DOS but I have backed down from that position because I don't want to be responsible for so many different personalities, it"s like managing a rock group.
Anyway darling, chin up and forge ahead.
Cheers Cai Hong
