I just recieved my NOVA info package, and I'm reading through the book, but was hoping for some advice from people in the know. First I was wondering if there is a bonus upon completion of the 1 year contract, since it seems to be standard, but I can't find a ref for it in the book. Also, does anyone know if it's worth it to take the JMA-MBA coverage or should I look for something here in Canada?

thanks for any help in advance.

There is no bonus upon completion - you might get a slight pay raise if they decide to extend your contract (if you're interested in staying another year).

I would personally go with another insurance company - I've heard that it is sometimes difficult to get your claim money back from JMA...and the price is way too high.

thanks for the reply, I'll look into another insurance carrier here. I just found the line where it says no severance will be paid at the end of the contract, so I guess i'll have to put some cash aside for a way home (or maybe see how much my family loves me and wants me back Laughing )

Yeah, do NOT go with JMA if you want any reasonable kind of accident insurance. Their maximum payout is 3,000,000 yen (around $30,000 US). That will not last you very long if you break both your legs and are stuck in hospital. I have a policy with Interglobal which costs about the same as JMA but has $2,000,000 maximum accident payout. I also used it to cover some routine dental work (fillings) and about 75% was covered. It's not perfect but it beats JMA.
