Men,
Which, in your opinion, are the best bars for watching sport in Istanbul? Any sport, it doesn't matter. They're nearly all as good as each other. I'm thinking in terms of the size and number of TV screens in relation to the price of beer.
Also, what do you think of Turkish football when compared to, say, the major European leagues? I think this year we can make a good comparison, as the English, German and Italian divisions can all be seen on Turkish TV (lamentably no Spanish action this season).
Please feel free to mention any kind of beer when replying to this post, as well as any type of Indian or Chinese food. |

I usually watch the premiership(English) at home. The SPL isn't worth watching. With the six Nations coming up I'll be down the James Joyce for the rugby. I know the JJ is crap with expensive beer but is there anywhere else to watch Rugby on the European side? Has anyone got tickets for the Champions league final yet?
Oh and don't you find the price of decent(gillette) razors horrendous? |

I can't understand the price of men's 'en iyisi' razors. It's a travesty. I'm sure the women paying 20 bucks for a packet of tampax can empathize with us on that one. Having said that, 'Axe' (Lynx) is fairly reasonably priced in my opinion.
I can get a couple of French channels on my TV, but they're only really good for the French six-nations games.
I don't know if tickets have gone on sale for the Champions League final yet but I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything.
How do you feel about the introduction of SKOL lager last year? I think it gives us some perspective on the whole beer issue, i.e. Efes isn't really that bad. It's surely only a matter of time before 'Tennant's super' comes on the market. |

I think only the French home games.
As for skol..... it reminds me of underage drinking. Last week I went into an offy in Edinburgh and there was a special offer. Buy 4 beers and get 2 free. The beer in question? Efes of course. |

I'm surprised it wasn't buy 2, get 4 free. Did you make the most of the offer? |

I can imagine you standing in the off-licence, can of Guinness in one hand, can of Efes in the other. Such a dilemma! |

Hmm... I wonder what they would taste like mixed together. I'm sure I've probably drunk worse. Well the beer in Bar Madrid for starters. |

Madrid has its own microclimate that has a bad effect on the beer, especially if you hang out in the dungeon downstairs. It's never stopped me necking a few though. |

The whole bar thing in this country is just crap . Whereever you go you get ripped off and most of them have the wrong channals on anyway ,so I'm gonna boycott them .
I have yet to find a decent "local " in Izmir unless someone wants to point me in their direction ,please don't mention the usual holes aka ,eko, sembol, doydoy they are the worst kind .
Looks like I'll start making my own stuff, wine or beer its got to be better than the nats water they serve up for 6 mil a glass here .
Anyone got any tips on how to start my own home brewery ? |

It's possible to get all the gear you need in this country to brew your own beer, a couple of friends of mine started doing it a while back. Don't know where they found it though. |

Ollie, post your question on the Saudi board. That's what my friend did before he went to Saudi. He got loads of recipes. He now makes his own(religously) and claims it is better than Efes. |

Some FA Cup games (English footy) are being shown on KanalTurk this weekend. I think they're planning to show Portsmouth v Southampton, and also Man Utd and Chelski. |

I don't really know why you're even discussing Efes when beers like Grolsch, Bitburger and Budvar are now available. If only someone would import Ruddles, though! |
