I don't wanna be a boring jeans 'n t-shirt guy.

Can I wear shorts 'n shirt instead! Also, I don't really know how to dance, but that's another story... Smile

Wear whatever you like. Unless you're a very very metro guy back home, you will be underdressed compared to the Japanese guys, so just wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Just make sure you're in line with the dress code at the place you're going if they have one (most places don't).

Just kidding (half-kidding!), (I have the money to buy clothes) although I'm incapable of buying clothes by myself.

The shorts I'm talking about wearing are not some dumb tight short things.. they're OK, and I half-wear them. I like them hanging off my last vestige of ass! The T-shirt: I dunno, this guy gave me a free one in Korea. I kind of like that, and I sort of roll up the sleeves a bit.

yeeks, no, it's not a gaijin pub. Like a dance club thingy, as far as I know. I'm kind of nervous about going there, especially because I can't dance, at least not in front of other people (!) , for the moment. Maybe one day I will, but I am trying to shed all these hang-ups, but the dancing thing is about the last big one.

People dance at pubs? I guess I remember being back in Chicago, and on a bad night some jocks would show up and think they were being funny and start dancing....but no dancing at any of the pubs I've been to in the past 10 years.....thankfully, as I like to drink my whiskey without a disco ball!
Anyway at a pub, which is more relaxed than a club, you can wear anything. I wouldn't recommend wearing shorts and a t-shirt to a club....at least not here in Tokyo, unless it's some cheesy place in Roppingi, or a serious hip-hop style you are gonna' rock! I also would not recommend rolling up the sleeves on a t-shirt.

Well, if this is the look you're talking about, go right ahead! Roll up those t-shirt sleeves and hit the dance floor. As you should know from living in Osaka, anything goes here, as long as it's 'fashionable'. But then you get into the realm of what is fashionable and what isn't?
I don't know. I think personal style is so important, and can always spot someone who tries too hard. This is a result of working in the fashion business for years......ugh! Never again!
Anyway, if you really can't dress yourself and have no idea what to wear, just go for something basic and simple. I personally think jeans and a t-shirt on a guy are fine!
And damn....the men dress nice here. So well put together and the bags they carry are so sexy....mmmmm mmmmm mmmmmm!, classy yet cool!

I'm not really saying that guy's look is my style thing. Actually, it's kind of different. Just the length of the shorts, I guess. (It's hard to find "me" on the net in a picture!). My shorts are more casual, (a bit shorter), more hanging off my ass! Laughing

Sorry, I had written this little paragraph about my clothes, but, really, this is not interesting. I'm going for the simple, "I hate clothes", look, but still look good! Laughing

Yeah, the men dress quite nicely here. Although, in a land where 95% of the people are ultra-fashionable, I don't know what really is fashionable..

The only way I can hit the dance floor right now is to fall on it.

It's not really that I can't dress myself or have no idea what to wear. I know my style. I know what's me and what's not. I generally like the minor amount of stuff I have. I'm just bad at shopping, can never decide, so I just keep my ever-scraggly jeans (which I like as they get worse and worse), etc. I just don't want to look like every gaijin and every Japanese guy! Yes, I know, life is so hard!

Wear a hat, not a baseball cap, but a cool hat. Everyone dresses so different here that it's impossioble to be different; unless maybe you're really normal! He He.
Yes, the big cities here are certainly fashionable, but that doesn't mean everyone looks good. As I mentioned, some people try too hard. They might have all the clothes that money can buy, but no personality to carry them....ya' know....that's what really comes through in someone.
If you're cool you're cool no matter what you wear..... even if you fall on your face on the dance floor.
Geeez....just have fun!

For crying out loud, Foxie, don`t be a geek and roll those sleeves up. Let the ladies dream about what you might have going on under them. And about your shorts, save your arse crack for the doctor and the dark. And really, if you`re that nervous about going to a club, don`t. Buy a little disco globe thing, put on some tunes and save yourself the stress and money.

The nerves thing. Nobody got anywhere by doing nothing because of nerves. I'll go, but, you know, some stuff is hard for people. I don't want to write an essay about why it's hard for me to dance in front of 5 zillion people, but it is. Anyway, it doesn't really matter.

Alright, I'll ditch the shorts and reassess things. I'm just kidding, but I will go shopping.

In clubs in Tokyo, people wear anything and everything... And it's usually so hot inside that people don't really get too dressed up. I think you should just wear what you feel comfortable in... If it's shorts and a T-shirt with rolled up sleeves, so be it. As Anne O points out, it's not so much what you wear but the way you wear it. If you've got style then you can make a pair of shorts work. If you've got no style, then no matter how much money you spend on clothes, you will still look bad... And you'll probably feel uncomfortable too.

I've seen plenty of guys wearing shorts to clubs in Tokyo... Mind you, none that look like the guy on the right in your picture! So dress for yourself and not for other people.
