Why not go to the masses learning English in China's school system, and ask them once and for all how we ought to shorten the length of time it takes to say "English for those whose native language is not English"?
Here is how I suspect some might respond:
"FE" -- fukcing English
"WWE" -- why? why?! English
"WAWOT" -- what a waste of time
Other predictions? |

Not wanting to be left out of 'it', maybe the septics could provide AAL, American as an Additional Language. The number of bloody yanks I've heard say they speak American rather than English would seem to certainly justify this acronym! |

EAL (English as a Additional Language) could serve as a substitute for the acronym, ESL (English as a Second Language), but not for EFL (English as a Foreign Language).
EAL may, in fact, be based on a system of teaching especially designed for bi/trilingual learners. For example, a Russian businessman who is fluent in Mandarin and now wants to learn English. |

Let's go to the inevitable conclusion ;let's put every phrase and sentence into acronyms. Then when everything has been shrunk to acronyms,by us knowing them we can pat ourselves on the back for being so bright and knowledgeable, good idea ? |

I agree with AussieGuy.
What in the world is wrong with EFL? English as a Foriegn Language. Didn't we all learn French/Spanish/German (delete as applicable) when we went to school back in the day? |
