After a short time (2 months ) working for a corrupt and dishonest employer I told them where to go. I am starting my own school, but for now want to get a part time job to fill the gap. Does anyone have suggestions as to the best way to deal with a two month employment term on you resume, or off? I remember the advice experts gave me in Canada for such issues was "willing to discuss in an interview". I left on bed terms (telling them they were dishonest , unethical and that I didn't need their job). So clearly they will not be used as a reference. I would appreciate any good advice and experience anyone has with this type of thing.

Second and completely unrelated, does anyone know where I can buy cayenne pepper powder, preferably in bulk?

Thanks
ravel

Two months is not enough to put on a resume, and if someone ever asks (doubtful in my opinion), just be honest. That will be the best thing to show a prospective employer. Just don't sound like a complainer. Keep it short and sweet. Don't even mention the name of the place at first.

Example
"I started working at a school that had some really bad business practices. I don't think it is right to say their name, but it was a bad situation for me, so I gave notice to find a position with a more honest and reliable employer."

Apsara,

No just add some Cayenne daily to my protein drink, as a metabolic booster.

Well you'll pay a lot more for stuff labelled 'cayenne pepper' than you would for just plain old chilli powder. Best place for that would be any Indian grocery.

I totally agree with the first part of that but I have reservations about the second bit.

If at all possible just gloss over it. Two months is a drop in the ocean and of no consequence in the 'grand scheme of things.'

As for telling the truth, well, this may be virtuous and worthy but being scrupulously honest isn't always the best policy. A prospective employer would have only your word suggesting that you were in the right. You are then throwing yourself on his/her mercy and hoping they will see things your way. They may not!

Lying by omission (failing to mention a material fact) is dishonest in itself but it's preferrable to telling big black hairy lies. However, if the OP has been the victim of chicanery by his/her previous employer then why should he/she be forced to carry the stigma around? He/she has a duty to him/herself to provide for his/her own best care. Provided that there is no intention to damage another party, the OP should, IMHO, write whatever is necessary on their resume to enable them to move on and leave this regrettable incident in the past.

Ravel, if at all possible, leave the episode off your resume entirely. If that's not possible, try slightly altering the name and address of your previous employer and point out that they have now ceased trading.

And you didn't hear that from me! Very Happy

By the way, Cayenne Pepper is chili powder under another name:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cayenne_pepper
You can get it from most supermarkets.
Best wishes
JB

Funny you should mention the pepper, Ravel. Because just last night at a mate's place he busted out a large Tupperware full of pepper from Ethiopia. His mum sends it to him and he makes curry with it. Would that do the trick? I know he has mentioned moving some of it.
He also drinks this barley drink you might be intersted in. My daughter is drinking the same thing every morning. He tells me he downs a bottle of that instead of lunch and can power through work. His co-workers are just tripping.
Enjoy,
s

I know there's not much point trying to comprehend the drivel sweets posts but given to volume of diarrhea we getting at the moment (refer to the 'handling it all' thread) I had to say something

Are we talking about pepper http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_pepper or chillihttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chile_pepper of which cayenne is a variant from South America.

Are we talking commercial quantities? I mean Eithiopia sounds like a long way to come when you can walk down the road a buy a KG for 3-400 yen.[/quote]

Are we talking about barley water?, barley tea? or some kind of barley milk?

Thank you, Markle. Do I detect malice? Or did you simply wish to showcase your lack of writing and spelling skills?
Learn some manners, while you are at it.
