Hello,

I am teaching conversational english to recent migrants of Australia (my country) there english is beginner mostly, and intermediate at best.

It's part-time volunteer work and my job is to help them learn practical conversational English.

Unfortunately the place I teach lack the resources (ie, textbooks) that I need to teach.

So can someone please give me some websites that has a long list of everday english phrases. (Or anything else that would help.)

Such as: Hello, how are you? (Good thanks, and you?)
I am going out now.
Can you please tell me where train station is?
Which way to the bank?
The time is 3.30pm.
I had a good day at work today.
I have 3 children, 2 daughters and one son.

And so on....

Please post links to website that are helpful.
I don't mind purchasing a textbook, so feel free to suggest a textbook.

Would really appreciate some help. Thanks.

Is she Canadian? That would explain it.
Hmm...I'm Canadian, too, although I call North Carolina home these days. Soon to call Wuhan home. Nice forum.

Heh, TW, you're a find lad as well.

Be well, ya'll.

My Avatar is pleasent on the eye huh? I on the onther hand am not so young or for that matter a lady. Try an old guy from the land of Oz down under!

If a search is done using the words "Basic English" then more material will be found on teaching English to beginers!

It's kind of funny as one chap was posting all the time on my threads with an Avatar of an old man that appeared mental. So seeing such a depressing Avatar made me search on the Net for something nice and I came up with the lady I have.

Firefox has an Image site with unlimited images of the right size for here on Dave's!

And I also agree, for what it's worth. I don't agree with many of his posts but you know something -- they keep me informed -- and given the paucity at times of available information around here, it surely helps.

And helpful, yes. Thanks Anda for sure.

HFG

HFG: And you, too, could be an Anda, if your weren't (1) toujours critical, and (2) mucho smuggy. As Hemingway was prone to say, "it's in the tone."

My goodness - you older Aussie ladyboys do wonders with an old dress and a pair of red sunglasses. Love the orange strap. Wink

Laughing just joking... Laughing

I also enjoy some of Anda's posts...and have similar feelings re: the possibility of an economic crisis in the near future.
