Hi Everybody,

I'm thinking of coming to Greece to teach for a year. After perusing the forum I've figured out that I should steer clear of Anglo-Hellenic...

I'm a qualified and experienced (4 years) TEFL teacher and would like to know the best place to live and work in Greece. I love architecture, good cheap food, and gay bars Smile

Thanks

The island of Mykonos is known for its gay community, so you may want to check it out...

Sorry, but I doubt that you will be able to find full-time work in Mykonos. It is very much a holiday island and most people who work there in the summer leave in October (the beginning of the school year). If you want gay bars your best bet is either Athens or Thessaloniki. You should be aware that Greeks have a less than progressive view of homosexuality.
If you want to work on an island, you should consider the islands where more people (and particularly families) stay all year round. Crete, Rhodes, Lesbos (Mytilini) and Evia.
Don't be swayed by some of the views on Via Lingua that you see on this forum. They are a very useful resource and professional organisation and when the alternative is coming over here and tramping the streets with your CV in hand, they are well worth contacting. If you don't like what they are offering, don't take it but they will give you invaluable advice.
