|
|
I'm in the process of planning my Hadj 2007 holiday. As you'll all be aware, this year it roughly coincides with Xmas. For some, this might be viewed as a happy coincidence, or even just a curious one. But for me it's a cruel pincer; here I am, a non-subscriber to either faith, taking my Islamic holiday and being hit by Xmas supplements and high demand.
Isn't it ironic, don't you think? A little ironic . . .
"you were caught between
hajj and
xmas,
it was the vise of
death,
each side crushing in
upon you." |

You could try Pyongyang - no Christian or Muslim festivities there. |

I'm more concerned about what will happen to our holidays when the "Hadj" and/or Ramadhan is during summer time. |

Until October 11? That's the end of Ramadan. When does your summer break begin? Don't tell me you're getting 4 months off! That's just decadent. |

... and expensive if you don't own a place somewhere to escape to...
Do you normally get all of Ramadhan off Scot?
It will be awful to have Ramadhan hit right at the beginning of the academic year... just as you're trying to get organized and get to know the students. Or at least it will be for those who have to teach during it.
But back to your question Van... how about India or Sri Lanka or Laos or Cambodia? I don't think you will be able to avoid high demands though, so best to plan ahead and get reservations ASAP.

Not at all, the irony is that your brain is not in 'resonance' with your heart!

007! You are indefatigable. Not sure what you mean but I like it anyway. Keep up the good work.
VS, your suggestions are a lot better than scot's, that's for sure. But, after a lot of fretting and changed plans, I have made up my mind where I'm going and got the tickets. I just resent having to do it now, months in advance. And the irony . . . |

Yea, next year Ramadan comes at the end of the summer holiday so it's included in the summer holiday. This year we'll do three weeks teaching and then go off for Ramadan. But then we get Hajj, then after that the inbetween semester break and then a week's mid-semester break and then the three and a bit months for summer. |
