Hi everyone-
I have a question concerning transportation. I will be taking my CELTA in Barcelona - at the Lewis School on Via Carles (I think that's the street - I believe it's near the metro Maria Cristina). My apartment is on Peu de la Creu (Near Plaza Catalunya). So here's my dilemma: I'll be landing at BCN airport in the morning. Then, I have to go to the school to pick up keys to my apartment and then finally get to the apartment. Now, all this time I will be dragging along my two suitcases. What would be easiest/cheapest way to get from the airport, to the school and then to the apartment (keeping in mind that I have to drag those suitcases around which is going to be difficult)? I was thinking taxi --- but that might be pricey and while i'm getting the keys at school will it be safe to leave my luggage in the car and have the driver wait for me??
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks so much!! |

My Barcelona school met people at the Airport and gave them a lift. If you are going to a school which is too churlish to do that, then my advice is to take a taxi. They are much more cheap and reasonable than in the US.
Barcelona is swarming with theives. You try taking two suitcases thru the metro and maybe you will arrive with only one. |

Yes, that's what I'm afraid of. Plus, I don't think I can drag these suitcases all over the damn city without screaming "TOURIST." This is the last thing I want to look like.
I'll have to break down and get a taxi then. When I get to the school - do you think it'd be safe to leave my luggage in the taxi while I go upstairs and get the keys I need or should I just take all of my stuff out and then grab another taxi for the ride to my apartment? |

I'ld be pretty surprised if you had any trouble with the taxi driver like that. In fact I would be very surprised to see a Spaniard steal anything from you --- gypsies and other types are a different matter.
If you are worried write down the cab's number. An alternative is to take the luggage to the Sants station and leave it in a left luggage locker. You could do that if you were super paranoid about it or carrying the crown jewels or something like that. |

actually this is a really good idea - you can get the train into Sants station from the airport (dont think the bus still stops here) & leave your stuff here. If not an average fare from the airport to city centre in a taxi is about 20 so when you add in a few stops & waiting time your bill could really add up. They also charge you extra for putting luggage in the boot but i do think all your stuff should be safe enough with them if you choose to leave it there (but also let them see you making a point of writing down his number) |
