Teachers on Dave's seem to favor Language Link slightly. Maybe because Language Link gives longer free housing when you first arrive and pays a little better.

Can anyone comment on these two schools? How are they in the way of teacher support and professional developement?

Language Link has a very good reputation and has been offering CELTA courses for a relatively long time. ILA is expanding rapidly, has a very new CELTA course - meaning they don't have a lot of experience offering it- and is not very popular with long term teachers in HCMC.

As far as being employers...well Language Link is probably at the top of the food chain in Hanoi and ILA somewhere near the middle in HCMC. This is based on pay more than anything else. ILA sort of specializes in hiring newly certified teachers that it trains itself. Not surprisingly, these newbies are paid less. But to ILA's credit, they have good facilities and their coordinators watch and assess teachers regularly.

I suppose if you were looking for a long career in VN, ILA might not be a bad bet. They have expanded so rapidly that they have lots of managers. They offer the DELTA, the next step after the CELTA, and almost all their DELTA students are teachers at the school who want to be managers in the empire.

Hope that helps.

What you wrote, lexpat, confirms what I thought about the two schools.

Interesting to hear about the promotion possibilities in ILA.

Since I am not a brand new teacher with a CELTA, I am leaning toward Language Link. ILA makes you teach kids exclusively for an unspecified period of time - something I am not too crazy about even tho my friends say its easy.

Anyone else have an opinion on these two schools?
