Can U.S. citizens still enter Thailand without a visa and stay for 30 days? Nothing changed with that?

Thx .... Mep

^ Yes, you can still get 30 days without a visa.

It's possible that immigration will ask to see an onward ticket when you arrive at the airport.

The same is true if you decide to extend the initial 30 days by doing a visa run;

you might be asked to show an onward ticket out of the country.

Sometimes they ask, and sometimes they don't ask.

found this update on the AOT website today,

Quote:
Passengers without entry visas (please see List of countries section below) are able to obtain visas at the arrival counter. A fee of 300 Baht must be paid and two pictures of one inch size are required (express photo service fee for four photos is 120 Baht). Details here AOT / Suvarnabhumi Airport

Thanks Kent.

At this point I'm actually trying to use a ticket to Thailand to get me into Taiwan. Makes perfect sense, right?

I need a visitor's visa into Taiwan. They require to see a ticket into Taiwan, and also a ticket out of Taiwan.

But the ticket out has to be either to: a place you have a visa to enter, or
a place you don't need a visa to enter.

So if, technically, I need a visa to enter Thailand -- even though I can buy one when I arrive -- I wonder if a ticket out of Taiwan to Thaliand would suffice for my visitor's visa.

Thx ... mep

You're welcome, mep3 -

but your last question is over my head.

The visa on arrival in Thailand is called a visa exemption.

Unfortunately I have absolutely zero experience with Taiwan immigration.

Imo - they *should* accept Thailand as a 'no visa required' country - but I'm not 100% sure.

Why not play it safe and buy a 1 year open-ended ticket back to your home country? Might come in handy.

Then you should be fine with having an onward ticket to Thailand, because technically you do not need a visa for Thailand.

Hong Kong is visa free. I usually have a ticket to HK when I visit Taiwan.

That's what I always thought. I saw a post a couple weeks ago though where someone said that now you do need a visa to get into Hong Kong. I spent the longest time searching for it today but I couldn't find it. I do remember that when I entered HK, they always flipped through my passport until they found my mainland China resident's visa.

Two questions (I'm also coming from the US):
1. Can I get a tourist visa (60 day visa) in the airport, or am I stuck with the 30 day?
2. Will they accept an open ended ticket back to the US, or do they need to see a date?

The answer to number 1 is no. I still don't know the answer to number 2.

Can someone tell me how to make a border run? All I have to do is cross over and cross back, right? Anything else I should know?
Thanks!
