I am taking the CELTA course next month at Teaching House in NYC. I've been told there are a fair number of ESL jobs available in the city, though some have said you have to go abroad for at least a year. I was wondering if anyone had any experience looking for ESL jobs in New York with just a CELTA, with or without experience abroad. Teaching House offers its database of contacts, which includes private language schools, etc., in NYC. Just wondering if finding work (whether or not highly paid, whether or not with benefits) is really possible here. |

I saw a few ads on Craigslist for ESL positions. One paid $25 an hour. Craigslist's website is down now, but when it's back up, you should check it out. Most of the jobs are in northern Queens, between Flushing and Bayside. Lots of schools along Northern Blvd., mostly teaching Koreans. |
