Howzit all
I am going to do this test sometime later in the year and wondered if anyone has done it or has any old exam papers. There are none on the Net and I'm a bit concerned as to the format of the paper, etc. I'm not doing it through any school, just on my own. My Russian teacher has liaised with the university I can do it through.
The test is given at different levels, and I want to try the TORFL-2. But any help or old tests from TORFL-1 would also be great.
Looking forward to any ideas, comments and help. In Russian it's called ТРКИ-2.
Cheers

So if you score low this year, you will look better the next time you take it knowing what to expect, right? You can say, 'Look what progress I have made in only 1 year! It shows I am a fast learner!" |

Who on earth is administering this test and for what purpose? Is it for admission to a Russian university or what? |

Hi again
Hold the ever-present (and healthy) skepticism, Rusmeister!
I'm doing this test/exam purely to have something stating that I have a comfortable level of Russian. I don't need it for any job, but hey, who knows what I may need it for.
The TORFL or ТРКИ is on par with EU standards, apparently. TORFL-2 is needed to study at uni, and I'm not sure what the others allow you to do.
So, to repeat the original question and the aim of this thread - does anyone have any helpful information or past papers?
Thanks

That still doesn't answer who's administering it.
FTR, I took such a test in NY administered by the NES (got a perfect score, btw) - they didn't even require me to write my answers in Russian, although I did, in cursive. They asked a banal question about a film by Govorukhin about Solzhenitsyn, and in the process of answering I referred to Govorukhin's classic "Mesto vstrechi izmenit' nel'zya" and I think that clinched the perfect score.
Again, 'is needed by whom to study at uni'? |

Well, I think it sounds like fun. Sort of like a puzzle so I encourage you to take a whack at it.
But I have found that people know my competency in Russian as soon as I open my mouth or they read something I have written.
I am pretty good at tests, but at the end of the day, a stardog still costs the same no matter what I scored. |

Hey guys
Thanks for the comments. I've decided to do the intermediate level test because I did a practice test and passed without studying. Since I can do this test next week in St Pete, and I'm flying there anyway, I'll give it a go.
The administering bodies I suppose are not only the schools and universities where you do it, but there is probably some higher body. Anyway, I'll ask my Russian teacher today.
About university, I'm not sure about this, I have no ambitions to study in a Russian university (or any place where money can buy you a degree). But I suppose it's for any foreigner who wants to study in Russia or something like that.
Well done on a perfect score, Rusmeister! Really wish I had your level!
Cheers

You can have your wish. Just study Russian intensively full-time for, say, 3 years, living, eating and breathing it. Commit yourself to it and don't ever quit! |

Well, I have now received last year's TORFL-1 test, if anyone plans on doing this exam, let me know and I can post it or send it.
Thanks again for your words, guys, I'm going to pass this one in Piter on Thursday! |

I am interested in this test. I would like to know what the test is like in case I need to take it myself. I am thinking about studying in St Petes. I can PM you with my Email if you want. |

Hey hey!
So I passed the test TORFL-1, and I'll blow my own horn - it was easy. Maybe I'll take up your advice, Rusmeister.
Anyway, anyone who wants to take this test can contact Liden Denz in St Pete, Transportniy Per. 11, Floor 5. Contact Sasha on [email protected] or Masha (DoS) on [email protected]. It costs EUR59 to do and you get you result immediately. Your certificate is sent to you by post.
Please PM me if you want more information.
Good luck!
