Hey, Dave. I lived and worked there for 6 out of the past 7 years.
What is it you'd like to know about Hiroshima?
Two big, big hints:
1) Dave's English House is, in my opinion, the most committed to teaching English well. They also run ETJ (English Teaching in Japan), an alternative to the ominpresent JALT (Japan Association of Language Teachers).
This is not to say that DES is necessarily going to be nice to teachers-- you may find that you have long commutes between teaching appointments. But it's at least a name you'd be proud to put on your resume.
2) Avoid Lang and Aaron's schools. Like the plague. They are both well-known to Hiroshima folks as places that make their teachers freak out.
(PM me for more info.)
Newton's Apple has an excellent reputation (for teaching kids)....
But hey, the list of stars and stinkers goes on and on.
There are a billion and one English schools in Hiroshima, so if you could narrow down where you're going to live in Hiroshima, or what schools you're considering, that'd help a lot. |

To start you off, not specifically about Hiroshima but Hiroshima centred.

I'm in Saijo which is right outside of Hiroshimia in the Hiroshima ken preficture. Rent here is insanely cheap (28,000 yen) and it is very beautiful. There are free Japanese lessons at the international center near the station and there is a school in Hiroshima that teaches Japanese for a fee. As for night life, I am not sure yet because I have not had a lot of time to explore and I do not know a lot of people yet. The website www.gethiroshima.com is a great source! If you would like any more information, feel free to PM me! |
