I started a similar discussion awhile ago about the differences between living on 'the outside' and a compound in Saudi. I am moving to Jeddah and would like to know if someone could tell me where there are good places to live that are near KAU. I am particularly looking for a 3 bedroom flat in a nice area, but I am far from being rich. Does the price range from area to area, and how much am I likely to spend? |

I don't know specifically about nice areas around KAU, but the university is located in Jamiah District. Two adjacent districts are Sulaimaniah District, and Rawabi District.
Rents differ in Jeddah from area to area. 3 bedrooms would range from 15,000 in the cheapest area to about 25,000 in a posh area, which would probably be the Corniche.
But typically, you are looking at about 17,000 to 22,000 for a 3 bedroom flat with a sitting/dining room, plus a large entrance/lounge area, kitchen, and at least 2 rest rooms.
Unfortunately, in this country, there are no publications which list places for rent, as far as I know. So, you have to come here and do the apartment hunting, or have someone do it for you before you arrive. Where are you now? |

I am in the UK now, but I will be going to Saudi towards the end of August. 22,000 in a posh district is not bad. I am well aware of the flat hunting in the Gulf, since lived in Dubai a few years ago and had to do the same thing. How far is the corniche from these two districts that you mentioned? |

Granted I don't live in Jeddah, nor have I ever investigated the rental market in KSA, but 25,000 for a 3 bedroom apartment in an up market part of town sounds very low to me. |

Do remember that the rents quoted are for unfurnished apartments, without even air conditioners. |

As a place to live check out the area around Sitteen Street. Much favoured by professional Indian and Pakistani families. Nice area. Big apartments. Good shopping and transport links. |
