Is there a limit on how much cash you can bring on a plane into Taiwan (U.S.D., yuan, Macau pataca)?

i thought it was something like $20,000 USD....but of course you can have as much in your bank account at home as you want, and then just withdraw it here... |

I don't know about Taiwan specifically, but most countries set a limit of US$10,000. That's not to say you can't take in / out more, you just have to declare it. It is done to stop money laundering. |

there are no restrictions on taking currency into the country...
departing from USA? there is no limit, but one must declare any amount over $10,000. here is the form that must be filed with the US Customs officer at your departure airport:

from other countries?
Australia= must declare amounts over A$10,000. Japan = must declare over 1 million yen. Don't remember about Euros...probably about the same.

Things may have changed but yuan used to be hard to exchange anywhere except Hong Kong. You can get Hong Kong dollars in Macau, they're the easiest to exchange. |
