In one of my last posts I suggested we not reply to the flamers, trolls etc. and other such inflamatory posts. There is a difference between a difference of oppinion expressed in a "civilized" manner, which we each have with many or few as the case may be, and outright goading, racism, on and on and on. Looking at a few of the posts again today, I see a worrying trend on these forums. There seem to be more aggressive posts than ever. If we are not careful there will be nothing left here other than the goading by the few and the responses of the many. There is no need to define what is an obvioulsy inflamatory post because, to steal a phrase, "We can't define it but we know it when we see it". Those seeking a response by goading are happy when others take the bait. If the bait isn't taken then maybe they will stop fishing.

Indeed

That seems the best and only course of action. What gets to me is when they willingly feed disinformation to newbies who ask for help in earnest. That, at the very least, is something that should not be tolerated.

A very good point...but lets do it by just pointing out the errors and not respond in a way that gives pleasure to the nut who gets off on it.

Osmosis is certainly taking effect, by the look of it. The China Off-Topic holds a post by Bertie .. oops .. Wonderless, entitled 'Those of you with REAL IT skills..'. I'm pleased to see that no-one (especially Minhang Oz) has bitten on that one. His other strike at ingenuity, entitled 'The typical mainland teacher' has also reeived few nibbles. Nothing sadder than a monologue posting.

Yes, I know, and I do sometimes succeed in staying away. But this current idiot, in his third reincarnation, is just too much. He gets banned, he changes his handle. He totally loses credibility, he has a rest, and comes back under a new handle. Some of his posts and threads are so stupid no one graces them with a reply. But he keeps coming. The internet has bred a special kind of lunatic, unfortunately.
