Anybody able to get myspace pics? How? 99% of mine are just red x's. Censored by Etisalat? |

Why not use a proxy? Just Google for "web-based proxy." That's how I read the official North Korean government news from South Korea, images and all, even though it's blocked.
Keep in mind that the proxy service has to have things like cookies and JavaScript most of the time. Otherwise you probably won't be able to log in. |

Well, I googled "web-based proxy" and got a lot of sites that offer them free, but they are also blocked. Now what? |

There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of proxies. Are they ALL blocked?
If so, remind me never to come to Saudi Arabia...

Cool. It's hard for governments to block them as quickly as they appear. Remember, there thousands of Chinese folks who specialize in this who are constantly creating new ones to evade their government's blocks. |

I found a proxy that lets me see myspace pics. But if there are several pages of pics, only the first page is accessible, because, when using the proxy, the buttons for navigaring to more picture pages are not active. What's up with that? |

Sounds like it's time to try another proxy. Usually I use MootZone.com. It even lets me log into sites and do things with Facebook with few problems. The only major problem I can remember having with it is one time when I needed to take an online exam through my community college based in the US, and it couldn't do that, but I've never had any other problems with it. Here are some other mirrors for MootZone:
IPSite.net
ILikeProxy.com
BakaAdmin.com
FluffMe.com
fumo2.com
IPFrogs.com
IPMooch.com
FaceSpaceWeb.com
FluffU.com |

Thanks, but all of those are blocked in the UAE. I've tried dozens and found two that work, but while they free up some features of myspace, others no lnger work. Maybe it's best to pm about the ones that do work, lest we tip off the censors on what to go after next. |

Yeah, but they advertise those mirrors loudly on their site... By the way, remind me never to move to the UAE! Wow, that's some severe internet blockage, probably more severe than China!
Actually, China is less severe than reputed. I was even able to visit the Taiwan section of Wikipedia last time I was there, without using a proxy! |

Is anyone having problems with logging onto facebook in Abu Dhabi....yesterday I was logged into facebook no problem, but noone in my apartment building can seem to get on today......
I really hope it hasn't been blocked by Etisalat..... so many of my friends barely use regular e-mail services to keep in touch.
Here's to hoping the server is just down or something of the sort. |

Where can we see photos of typical accommodation for university teachers in the UAE?
Does anyone have any links they can share to show us what the house looks like?
Thanks. |

I saw the same thing on another forum (for expat females) - most of them were having problems logging in - Etisalat customers, but not the other one's - and also, it looked like it depended on where you were - some people couldn't log in from home, but could from work (and not through VPN, just regular).
There were also issues with hotmail and yahoo - unable to access, and if accessed, super-slow and buggy.
I'm not in the UAE yet, but this internet thing is taking the front seat to all the other UAE-related 'issues' - I'll handle the heat, the sand storms, the humidity, the long sleeves, everything, but don't take my surfing away!
(btw, I hear Skype doesn't work there, unless you have some special secret instructions on how to tweak the code; seeing how hubby won't be joining me till next year at earliest, soooo not cool!)
Apparently, all these problems can also be solved by using VPN, which might be an insignificant expense compared to the benefits (one of the ladies on the expat forum pays about 95dhs for hers), or going for the VIP Etisalat package (I don't know exactly what that is, or how much it costs) |

Well, FWIW, the 'verdict' on the expat women's forum is... 'tis blocked, for most parts. Changing proxy solved the problem, if at least temporarily.
As for the other internet provider, they say it's basically same difference. Proxy and VPN remain the best solution, according to them.
I can't wait to be an internet rebel! |
