Hello, dont suppose anyone has done it? Taken your partner back to the UK. Any stories or info about this apart from what appears on the visa4uk website.

On a teaching note, any good websites to get interesting Articles such as http://www.breakingnewsenglish.com/
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/newsenglish/index.shtml

Thanks
raf

It depends. Are you already married? If so, then he/she'll just need to get a Spouse visa, which is a couple of chundred pounds if I remember right.

If not, then either you need to go through the bureaucratic nightmare of tying the knot in Mexico, or get a Fiance visa, fly to the UK, get wed, the non citizen returns, gets the Spouse visa...then you can start figuring out the rest of the bureaucracy that will come your way.

It used to be much easier, but they changed the law a short while back to try and stop bogus marriages.

Me and mine are looking at Dublin when we return to Europe. So much easier.

The spouse visa, according to the website, has suddenly shot up to 500 quid!

Getting the paperwork together in Mexico to get married does mean a lot of running around. You have to get blood tests too. You need to get a licence to get married from migracion which, in SLP, will set you back $3500 pesos. Don't forget to return to migracion and tell them you got married or it's a $600 peso fine. You must get the visa before travelling to the UK.

Why is Dublin easier?

Cheers.

From my preliminary investigations...

Providing we are married before entering Ireland, wherever that occurs, then my Mex gf simply needs to register at the Guardia. No work permit needed. It's as easy as that.

We can get married in Ireland, and working out the timing to keep within the rules is more the issue than the expense.

She can apply for citizenship after 3 years.

Personally, I would be happy with a Vegas drive through wedding, but my plan hasn't been greeted with total enthusiasm...

Dublin isn't a bad place to be either. Nice city, strong economy, jobs available, property not quite as pricy as UK, and RyanAir can take us anywhere in Europe for next to nothing! Oh, and I can jump on the ferry and go see Liverpool play now and then! Wink

I thought that had been discontinued.

Dublin sounds like alot less hassle. Or might try Spain. Probably difficult too.
