Was anyone else there on Thursday when a large number of police tried to arrest a hysterical man armed with a knife?
We heard shouting and saw the police (some uniformed some plain clothes) advancing towards a suited man who was walking backwards and brandishing a knife. He was screaming in Turkish 'Don't come near me!'
We went to the crossing as we wanted to cross to the metro. Suddenly my husband said 'he's coming to us!' I saw the face of the woman standing next to me distort with terror and she seized my hand in her panic. I followed them as they moved away but his path was semi-circular so we moved into his path rather than out of it! Anyway eventually the police manoeuvred him towards a waiting van and suddenly everything went quiet.
My husband wanted to hang around to see what happened but I was happy to get out of there. Does anyone know what the outcome was? |

Ah, yes, Taksim... Welcome to Istanbul! Does anyone remember the time last winter when there was a guy with a gun in the square, pointing it alternatingly at his head and at passers by? Lotsa cops there too, dont know what happened in the end. I scurried past to the metro- didnt fancy getting my head blown off. |
