Hi everyone!
Does anyone know what it's like at Kuwait Airways?
I have seen a job advert and want to know whether it's a good deal. Anyone out there know about them? Is 950 without accomodation enough?
"Kuwait Airways is currently seeking an EFL instructor to join the EFL Training Team."
950 Kuwaiti Dinar per month (inclusive)
Staff discounted airline tickets
Thanks |

Not a bad job and 950 without accom. Well you would need to ppay about 250KD per month for a nice place. So you are talking 700KD salary really. Why not ask them for accom? |

Depends on your credentials and experience. If you have an MA plus a few years of experience, that would be a joke. With a BA plus nearly zero, it is a foot in the door to EFL in the Gulf.

VS- it really depends where you go now- I have an MA +dip TEFL and because I like where I am, I have settled for a relatively low salary.
Also with the influx of eastern europeans + south africans to Kuwait in the past 3 years many schols are only starting BA people at 450! |

For that you may as well stay home... work in your home country and pay taxes... and make more money. (referring to Americans and Brits here)

God have you seen the weather-it's p*****g down-still, after 5 weeks ! ?
To fill my car would be 50, for two fish suppers ( just bought!) , 10, a coffee in (the only) Starbucks(for 50 miles) is 3,2 Macs Kids meals was 6......I would be paying 600 tax PER MONTH! And my pension would be cr** at the end of it. Iwould have to take early retirement (if they allowed me) not retire at 40 if I wished.
In Kuwait :
To fill car : 10
Fish suppers (nil)
Starbucks (probably 12 for every 15 minutes...) : 1
Macs kids meals(for 2) : 4
Can retire after 20 years with full pension-either in one lump sum or as a salary each month.
No tax (yet!)
Oh !
By the way for the poster who asked the question! Here is a site I found last night:

Just had a look at the Yahoo weather.
London 28 Fair
Manchester 25 Fair
Liverpool 25 Partly cloudy
You're making it up again, Miski, aren't you?
Personally, I wouldn't want to retire in a Gulf country even if I could fill my petrol tank for tuppence. I used to do it for free in KSA and still thought it was a s*******. |

You're obviously a big fan of Starbucks. I've never been in one and don't even know if they've spread to this part of the world. I much prefer the expresso type coffee served in my neighbourhood cafe, where you can also enjoy a selection of the finest Spanish wines and a range of chilled beers. As for MacDonald's............. |

No I prefer Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf ( they serve scones). But in my time in Italy I loved my little cappu every morning. |

Well, they are asking for a BA, CELTA and at least 4 years EFL experience.
I have a BA, CELTA and over 6 years experience. Could I find something better in Kuwait?
By the way, thanks VS and Miski for your input so far. |

Specialist,
I have a friend who currently works for KA and he likes it, mainly because there is very little teaching involved. (lazy *beep* Vacation time is crap, but once you're through your probationary period, flights are dirt cheap.
But I agree with VS. the salary is crap and if you're not getting much vacation time, why not teach kiddies and get housing and those looooong vacations. Yeah, you can find a place for 250, but you've got to furnish it yourself. F.T.N.
I've always wondered about KA. If it's so good there, why are they always looking for teachers? |

ou could get a job teaching in a school.Depending where you go you should get anything from 800KD plus accom and flight upwards. Hours would be about 7 30 - 2 30 every day. With Kuwait Airways you might get split shifts and work on Thursday.Teaching (nice) kids I find much less stressful than adults ( which I did for 10 years)- they usually do what you want! And you don't have to 'perform' for them.I founf that teaching adults was like being on stage every night-but I had to write the script, direct and perform.
Check
www.kuwaitrocks.wordpress.com
for a link to english schools in kuwait and write OR PHONE them directly.
Good choices might be :
GES, KES, NES. |
