Hello sailor......
Depends on what you do and how you do it one might say on the high seas.
A newbie could earn as little as 13 an hour or as much as 20 an hour depending on where you start, but lots to think about;
Rent
Consistency of hours
Development and support
Syllabus
Working environment
Other people to talk to
Access to EN speaking colleagues
Resources
Social network
Take them all in like you would the salt of the sea...... |

Be careful about focusing on an hourly rate. There are places offering very high hourly rates, but they only count 'teach time'. If you get hooked into a writing class that pays $25/hr, but then have to create your own materials and then grade 30 five-hundred word essays a week, that could get old quick. Also, some places further out of town pay higher rates, but you have to factor in travel time and other factors. |

Unless you're doing voluntary/semi-voluntary teaching for a charity or NGO, you shouldn't accept less than $20 per hour. |

Do rates vary? Like how much do they pay local teachers? non-native teachers? native teachers? |

Rates vary greatly, local VN teachers are paid between 1/20th and 1/5th of what foreign, or native speakers earn.
Native speakers, see the thread above. |
