Most of the schools want us to come with a tourist visa and then change it into a working visa - is it ok? what other kind of visas are there? |

On this one it would be nice to hear from some newcomers who came here on tourist visas - you know some actual experiences - with this question we don't need anymore hearsay |

At this point in time, don't do it. The Chinese authorities made some changes to the visa rules, and you can no longer change from L to Z in the country. It's probably been on the books for some time, but now, I'm sure enforcement is being stepped up as they are super strict before the 2008 Games.
You can be assured that when the authorities are dead-set on getting their house clean in time for the Games, they'll enforce the rules to the letter.

Anda, I take it that these were the questions you were being asked? Well, I'd be very interested in how this person came up with the notion that "most" schools want their FT's to come with a L visa. Also, if this person has to ask you what other kinds of visas there are, this person has not done even the slightest bit of homework at all.
Three common visas used by FT's when entering China:
L (tourist)
F (business)
Z (work) |
