My wife & I are moving to Chile in about two to three months time. My wife is Colombian and has to get her degree certificate and some other documents verified by taking them to the ministry of education in Bogota. Does anyone know if my UK Cert. Ed. & Cert. TESOL need a similar type of verification letter or stamp by the Home Office here in the UK, or will they be accepted simply as they are? (Original documents, not copies) If anyone knows anything about this and has presented their UK qualifications to an employer in Chile, could you let me know if they need verification or not? Thanks! Philip

..just to be safe, i would get them stamped...and make sure the copies have the stamp on them also.

you'll want to keep these on you in the plane, as luggage has been to known to disappear off the face of the Earth in L.A.

otherwise, i've known people who just show up straight off the Patagonia trail with hiking boots and get a job. in L.A., you're really you're own salesman/woman, and need to sell yourself.

are you still going to Vina?

do you have kids?

I haven't gotten through the visa procedure yet, but I'm told all they need are photocopies, which are then notarized within Chile.

I think it depends on what kind of job you want to get. I never actually showed the original certification for my job. I'm working (in my opinion) for one of the best language institutes in Santiago. But if you're looking for work in private schools or universities it may be a different story.

Just to say thanks for all the replies and advice!

We stayed in Chile for around three weeks in April and went to Vina del mar ... I was not impressed! We preferred Santiago, but I'm sure there';s plenty of other places to explore.

I'd also like to know who 'one of the best language institutes in Santiago' are.

Thank you,

Philip
