Has anyone any info on this new university in Kurdistan?

Could this be the birth of a new forum?

Why American University of Iraq? And is not built in Bagdad?
It should have been named: American University in Sulaimaniyah, because it is in Sulaimaniyah province and not in Bagdad!
American University in Washington
American University in Beirut.
American University in Cairo.
American University in Sharjah
.....
then we have ...
The American University of Afghanistan (in Kabul and not Tora Bora!!)
So, by analogy, it should be ....
American University of Sulaimaniyah and not of Iraq !
It seems this is not a good sign of unification of Iraq! |

Well your list has one inaccuracy. There is no such thing as The American University in Washington. There is a respected university called the American University and it is located in the city of Washington DC.
Each of the other establishments named was started independently by people within each country and they had the right to name it anything they wanted as they did.
Actually I would read it exactly the opposite. That they used "Iraq" in the name would suggest a pretense of staying a part of Iraq. I suspect that they would have preferred to call it "The American University of Kurdistan... since they already have their own flag and have no obvious intention staying in Iraq
VS
(I found it odd that they put up a photo of the first registered student... I also note that they only have one degree program... the MBA...) |

Also I find it odd that they put Jalal Talabani (Chairman) and Zalmay Khalilzad as members of Board of Regents ! Which means the university will be politically motivated and sided to one party, the party of Talabani!
I think Barazani will get upset, and will also ask for another American University in Irbil, in which he will be the appointed as its Chairman! |

He already set one up in Erbil. It's the University of Kurdistan - Hawler (ukh). Chaotically run. Take a look at the comments on it. There's a very high staff turnover. |
