I'm currently in China with a L visa and need it converted to a Z visa in Hong Kong. Wondering if anyone has any current directions for doing this or can point me in the right direction since I'm not having to much luck finding any kind of standard instructions for getting a Z visa in Hong Kong at the official goverment office that issues Z visas. My school has provided me with all the paperwork.

Anyway, I'll be arriving in the Hong Kong airport around 1pm on a weekday and leaving the next day around 5pm, but don't really know where to go or how to get there.

Appreciate any help

David

I don't know much about how to get the visa - but I do know, that if you're in China its normaly cheaper to fly to Shenzhen and then get a bus/train to HK. If the school is paying then fly - but if the money is coming from your own pocket...........

It's relatively easy, you can get the visa in one day. But if you are arriving at 1pm, its's too late in the day to apply for a same day visa then. The next day you said you are leaving at 5pm. Now in theory you can go early in the morning and then pick the passport up at lunch time, but you are not leaving any room for unforeseen circumstances. Even if things go smoothly I still think you still stretching the time. I would be banking a few days for this trip. Usually a same day visa requires you to apply in the morning and then pick it up and after lunch. It might be possible to apply the day you arrive and then pick it up the next morning, but I am not too sure about this.

Anyhow the visa office is at Wanchai, which is on Hong Kong Island. The address is

China Visa Office: 5th Floor, Lower Block, China Resource Building, Harbour Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong

To get there you can catch the MTR (subway) to Wanchai then you can ask people for directions. Or better get a map at Hong Kong airport and then when you get off the MTR you can easily find the place yourself. I think the China Visa Office is marked on the maps the tourist offices have in stock.

OP
Get to the visa office, as given above, at least an hour before they open, if not more. When you get in, get your ticket from the machine and grab a visa application form and fill it in as quickly as you can.

It will cost you more obviously if you want express service and make sure you have enough CASH to pay when you go back to collect, I don't think they accept cards.

24 hours should be plenty of time. just drop it off first thing when you arrive in hong kong and they should be able to have it ready for you the next morning.

the only concern is that you have all the documents you need when you get there; otherwise you're going to have a huge mess on your hands.

When you get to the window of visa clerk, don't forget to say to her, "Ding Ding Mao"

If she looks at you strangely, respond most sincerely "Ding Ding Mao!"
They love it when you do that..
