Do you really have to leave Russia to renew your visa? I've heard you can renew it from within with a new support letter. I've also heard you have to leave the country and reapply. Is it term specific? Some people have told me this only applies if you've been in country for a year. Anyone know the details? |

macedonianmike --
The only visa that can be renewed at all is a WORK VISA and if you get one of these it for three months and can be renewed for one year and then you must leave to renew. Teachers get business visas, usually. You must understand the company must write the letter of invitation and register you with OVIR, you can not do this on your own. And tour companies only write tourist letters of invitation - not employment letters.
If you want the official OVIR instructions for visas (in Russian) I will send it to you and if you read Russian or have help translating it you will understand how the visa laws are done.
However, these rules change without notice. I have lived in Russia for five years and almost every week there is a total reversal of the visa laws. Whichever way the wind blows today - is the new rules.
Send me a PM with your email and I will send the far too many pages to you.
