Does anyone have any information about either the school or the town; Gannan Normal University, Ganzhou , Jiangxi? Thanks in advance!

but not the school. the province is not the best for foreign teachers unless you are IN Nanchang. I was at a school 90 minutes by bus from Nanchang. taxis refused to take us back to campus because they knew they would not get a return fare. we paid both ways to get a ride. the hottest thing going was WalMart, Pizz Hut, getting a foot massage and McDonalds. if you are into a true Chinese countryside experience - go for it. but if you like a few civilized amenities - find another school. good luck!

Gannan etc., etc., has had more than a lot of very bad press both on this Board and on www.eslteachersboard.com.

I can't remember the gist of the complaints, though, but I do remember that they involve both pay and living conditions, two very elementary requisites for any foreign teacher in China.

If you have an opportunity to work elsewhere, you would be well-advised.

I've been here two years, renewed my contract last June and I think it's a great place to work. Two of my foreign friends also work at GNU and none of us have ever had any problems getting paid on time nor with the working or living conditions. The three of us are certainly not rookies, as we have 8, 7 and 5 years experience in China.
