|
|
A ground breaking panel of experts will meet soon in Istanbul, to address the problem of rising rates of obesity in Europe, and especially in countries like Britain where close to 25% of the population is classified as obese.
The 'thinnest' nation in Europe is Italy, which proves that carbohydrates and pasta are not the problems. Turkey is still ok, as far as obesity rates go, but ghost predicts things may change there in the future.
Check out this article.

Isn't it weird when one guy's obsession becomes an international conference with a panel of experts?
I wonder what they'll decide to do about all the little fat kids who are suddenly appearing here. Kids in America may be slimming down by comparison! |

Check out this article about an unhealthy Briton who adopted a Vegan diet (absolutely no meat or dairy products) and saw his health improve
and cholesterol drop quite dramatically within a short time of adopting the new diet. Teachers could profit from such a diet, because it would enable them to be more lucid and less enervated in class.
This is especially relevant to teachers like Baba Alex, DMB, FGT and a few others who have some weaknesses in their Turkish diets. Please take note.

How do you know what they eat? Am curious. I don't know and I actually spend time in the presence of two of them. |

Vegans also shun carnivores in the bedroom, and with good reason, according to this article.

What has all this got to do with EFL teaching you ask?
If you eat a meatless diet, you will be much more alert and fresh in the classroom. You will also not have that 'dull/lethargic' feeling so typical in afternoon classes, especially after lunch. Also avoid eating desserts if you teach after lunch, because desserts will give you a 'high' followed by a 'low' and you will feel tired in class. You are actually better off fasting before class rather than eating a large lunch.
The key is a good breakfast which sets you up for the day. The Turkish breakfast is great - eggs, fresh bread, low fat white cheese, honey, tea, and a piece of fruit. Ideally 25% of your daily calories should come from this meal.
Ghost is not completely vegetarian, but most of the meals consumed are meatless with an emphasis on cheese, tofu and beans for protein.
With a BMI of just 20.7, the diet appears to be working for ghost.

I was a vegetarian until I moved to Turkey. It's almost impossible to be one in Kayseri because everything (including the lentil soup) has something animally in it. Except the oban salatası. But one cannot live on salad alone. Anyway, since adding some meat to my diet, I feel BETTER. Much better. More energetic. Healthier. Less sluggish and heavy. Go figure. |

If you are feeling lethargic before an afternoon lesson, I reccommend what I used to do which is to have some Cocaine |

We have never met, you know nothing of my dietary habits or weight.
Statements like the one above that you (Ghost) made tend to detract from the possible underlying truth in your general premis. |
