Choose your home country, or tell me if I left yours out.

What is the purpose of this poll? and why haven't you voted? (I noticed zero votes when I wrote this.)
And why do you have England, Scotland, but no Wales (which is not my country)? |

Curiosity, Stephen. And maybe there aren't any votes yet because I only the put the poll up a few hours ago. Yes, I forgot Wales. Bad, bad me. I did ask for people to let me know if I forgot something. And don't worry, I didn't intentionally fail to vote in order to be deceptive. I've voted now. And I'm from the U.S. Happy? Somehow I don't think any of this will alleviate your fears, but I guess every message board needs its resident conspiracy theorist. Sigh. |

What I would like to know is why are there so many Canadians in Tiawan teaching English?
Canadians seem to outnumber any other nationality teaching English in Taiwan.
Any reasons for this? |

Doesn't Canada have a very high unemployment rate?
Slightly off-topic: I see this in the "know-it-all" newbies arriving here and preaching bogus "cultural understanding" when they barely understand the culture themselves. Could that be associated the Canadian factor?
Word up, Sunpower (I don't include you in that observation, amigo). |

I grew up in both the East and West. I have three passports and I am thinking about buying another citizenship, for business purposes. |

Trinity;
Maybe I am reading your post way wrong, but what the heck are you talking about? The way you wrote your post, it sounds as though you are associating Canadians with snobs! What is this cultural understanding BS?
I agree that some people, for whatever reason, believe they have mastered some sort of imaginary cultural barrier and are now empowered by the whole thing, usually spouting off on forums like this.
If you really want to see cultural pretenders, go to the Thailand forum. Quite a few of those teachers will feed you a pack of lies about all sorts of things and tell you to stay the heck out of Thailand unless you are prepared to embrace and live, eat and breathe the Thai culture, which is a big pile of crap because I just got back from there and anything goes.
But like I said, I do apologise if I misunderstood your posting. But perhaps you should clean it up becuase it doesn't make the least bit of sense.
And as far as concluding there is a high unemployment rate in Canada as the reason for all the Canucks teaching in Taiwan, there's actually another reason. HIGH TAXES! Not to mention the 10 years exp and three of four Ph. D's necessary for any decent job. |

On the Scotland
O Flower of Scotland
When will we see
Your like again,
That fought and died for
Your wee bit Hill and Glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
The Hills are bare now
And Autumn leaves lie thick and still
O'er land that is lost now
Which those so dearly held
That stood against him
Proud Edward's Army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
Those days are past now
And in the past they must remain
But we can still rise now
And be the nation again
That stood against him
Proud Edward's Army
And sent him homeward,
Tae think again.
0 Flower of Scotland
When will we see
Your like again,
That fought and died for
Your wee bit Hill and Glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward
Tae think again.
