i was rather shocked to learn that there is a cost of 185 euros to renew a UK passport through the british embassy in madrid.
surely there must be a cheaper way?
can i not ask my family to renew it for me from the UK, if i complete and forward on all the necessary forms? or can i not do this this if i'm resident in Spain? |

I think your family can do it for you or you can send it in to the passportt office and get it sent to your family to forward it on to you via signed for mail (an extra 4 via the post office). |

The UK 10 year passport costs 66 pounds doing it in the UK plus 3 pounds for secure delivery of documentation. It takes 3 weeks and is delivered to a UK address.
The 189 Euros (119 pounds) rip-off payment in Madrid is outrageous.
Unless I read it incorrectly, according to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, a Spanish 10 year passport costs about 17 Euros. Becoming Spanish could be an option if you can cope with the red-tape
