Hey, everyone. I am in Chile and I would like to stay here for more than 3 months. I only have a tourist visa which allows me to stay for just 3 months. Someone told me that if I leave the country one weekend, I will get a new visa that will allow me to stay another 90 days. Does anyone know anything about this? |

yes, that's correct, you can leave, go to argentina, mendoza for example, which is the closest location, come back and get another 3 months. i've done it. many people do it over and over. if you are planning to stay for a year or two, maybe it's not the best way to go.
cheers,

I recently left Chile for a week and flew to Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the airport in Santiago, they took my tourist card. When I flew back to Santiago I had to fill out a simple national police form, with my name and nationality and some other information. That national police form was what LAN Chile made me print out when I bought my plane ticket online. The customs people at the airport stamped it with the current date and told me not to lose it because I would have to present it upon leaving the country. I imagine it's the same thing as the tourist card, but it does not look the same. I am planning to leave Chile in December and my question is, is this new form the same as my original tourist card? And, will it allow me to stay for another 90 days, starting from the day stamped on the police card?
Thanks |

Does anyone know anything about my situation? It's almost time to go back home and I'd hate to run into trouble at the airport. |

Hey, Lunkey. Sorry for the delay. I hardly ever use this website anymore. Everything went fine. Look at like the last page on your passport. The people at the airport should have stapled a little piece of paper that says tourist visa or something. That is what they will look at when you are at the airport. Also, make sure you keep the flight ticket information and the paper they tell you to keep from the airport. That is extremely important. Everything went fine for me, but that was because I didn't lose anything. Just make sure that little paper is stapled somewhere in your passport and that you have your flight ticket stamped by the customs people. They stamped it for me. I never had to ask. If you have any doubts, just let me know. I went back to the U.S. safely and came back to Chile safely. I have been back in Santiago for a while. Don't hesitate to ask if you are worried about something. Take it easy, buddy. |
