Hi all,
I so appreciate ALL the help and advice that you guys give on a constant basis, and right now I am really needing that ASAP!!! (I need to buy travel tickets quick).
I want to see a friend of mine who lives in Guadalajara. I currently am staying in Xalapa, Veracruz. I was thinking about bussing from Xalapa to Toluca where I can get a cheap flight out to Guad. How long would it take me to get from Xalapa to Toluca's airport via bus? Is there a bus that goes directly from Xalapa to Toluca, or will I need to go to Veracruz and take another bus to Toluca?
The other option I have is to take a flight out from Veracuz directly to Guad. (But this is a more expensive decision... It would cost me $110 USD for this flight where as I could maybe bus to Toluca and take a $60 USD flight to Guad). Which one option sounds more reasonable?? I welcome any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks in advanced!

Ooops! I was just doing some more searching for cheap flights and found that the ticket I mentioned in the past post for $110 USD was really $165 USD with taxes. (And this is one-way!) GRRR! So it seems that the idea of taking a direct flight is out unless someone knows of other discount flights. (Aside from Aviacsa or Click).
Anyway, until then, does anyone know if there are direct buses from Xalapa to Toluca? How long would the bus ride be?
Thanks again!

The company is Ticketbus which is part of ADO.
They have a link on http://www.ado.com.mx but I don't know if that has schedules. |

Yes they do!
You can go direct to http://www.ticketbus.com.mx and they have drop-down menus to choose your route. |

Hey Phil_K,
I checked ticketbus.com.mx BEFORE I posted to see if there were buses that go directly to Toluca. No luck. I just checked again, (to be sure) and on that website there aren't any routes to Toluca. Does anyone know of buses that go to Toluca from Xalapa? How long is the ride?
Thanks! |

Why not go to DF then? It's just an hour away, and if you can still get a cheap flight from Toluca, the bus (DF > Toluca is very cheap - I don't know now, but a few years ago it was $33 (pesos)) |

AFAIK, if, as in your case, you are going from a city on one side of DF to a city on the other side, there's no direct bus.
What's more, in your case, in Mexico City you'd have to transfer from the western bus terminal (TAPO) where the Xalapa bus arrives to the east terminal where the Toluca bus departs (ie. cross Mexico City). By the time you've done that, and then taken the bus to Toluca, and then gotten to the Toluca airport, it hardly seems worth it. Yes, you've saved money, but in terms of time, you might be better off taking the bus to Guadalajara once you arrive in Mexico City (yes, it takes longer than the flight from Toluca, but some of the difference would be eaten up getting to Toluca and then to the airport).
Also have you checked whether there are also cheap flights from DF to Guadalajara? The TAPO terminal is very close to the airport. |

Just to add...
(and btw, the last poster got it the wrong way round... TAPO is the East terminal & Observatorio, the West)
The metro at TAPO (Metro San Lzaro) goes directly to Observatorio Bus Station (Metro Observatorio) via the Pink Line (No.1) where you can get a bus to Guadalajara .... or Toluca! |

AHHH, the shame, the shame. I stand corrected. Left, right, east, west, oriente, poniente; it's all one big mixed-up dyslexic blur. |

I assume you've already decided since you said you wanted advice quick.
I'd combine the last two posts. Take the bus, they are nice (and have a smaller carbon footprint than planes do).
Xalapa-Puebla-Guadalajara.
The CAPU station in Puebla is a great alternative to playing musical bus stations in Mexico City. |
