|
|
Hello,
I am a female Canadian teacher living in Oz (Qual. Cdn BA Hon. & Oz Grad. Dip Primary) that will be leaving Australia in January and wondering where the heck I can go! I wanted to go to the Middle East but a Jan. position sounds like it will be very difficult.
So, can anyone recommend a place on the globe that will be a) hiring for a Jan. start and b) pay reasonably well (student loans to pay!) I have full teaching qualifications and 1 year of teaching experience here in Australia.
Any advice would be great! |

If yer desperate enough and just want to kill time you could come to the US and teach substitute to finish the year. In California you'd have to pass something called the CBEST to prove you knew long division and like that.
I recommend you stay out of the big city because they'ld likely send you into some rough places, but if you go out in the sticks you could get all the exotic atmosphere you could wish for. For instance, Needles...it's a town like Alice. Or Jacumba maybe. |

Don't rule out the Middle East. January is right between semesters, and there may be some mid-year replacements or extra teachers for the spring semester. If you check here and www.tefl.com, you should see that there are still job ads in January (especially for business English).

Try Latin America. Most teaching jobs at schools start in March, but trainig starts in early Feb. And if you arrive in Jan, you could start the visa process. Check out the LA JOb list. And start applying now. Especially at international schools. THere's a list at the bottom of the LA JOb list. |

Just to be a bit more specific...South America. Mexico and much of Central America don't have the same March bump in job starts. |

Last time I checked, South America didn't come close to paying "reasonably well"!

Not with the qualifications of the OP. If she's got QTS, then she can teach in international schools, which pay about 30K USD a year, plus benefits. That's reasonably well. |
