Hey everyone,

I am currently debating whether I should accept an offer from a school in Poza Rica, Veracruz and I would like to know more about the place before I make a decision. If anyone knows anything about the place besides that it's a small town in Veracruz, I would appreciate if you let me know.

Thanks

Poza Rica...
...the arm pit of Mexico. Shocked

it's hot most of the year
it's really hot part of the year
it's humid most of the time
it's really humid the rest of the time
it's home to an oil refinery which means, pollution, smell, lots and lots of oil refinery workers crowed into cantinas.

However, the state of Vera Cruz is great. Poza Rica is a good location in terms of going other interesting places with a fair amount of ease.
Cool Jalapa, Vera Cruz City, Orizaba, Puebla, Mexico City to name a few.
tropical forests, mountian climbing, the beach, ruins, all within easy reach.

Its a toss up Confused

My experience in Poza Rica is similar to yours. And one more thing about Mexcan buses, they show movies. (which can be a plus or a minus depending..) and they are a lot cheaper than your average Greyhound bus.

El tajin was a blast, that was until I realized that all the pyramids are reconstructions. At the back of the site I walked through an area where they were preparing to "reconstruct" the next pyramid. Shocked

It was still interesting, but not nearly as interesting as say Teotihuacan or Palenque. I am not trying to bum anyone out here, there are still plenty of interesting things to see and do in Veracruz. The archiological museum in Xalapa is great. All those giant stone heads, cool. Cool And if you are into the native music, you can hear all kinds in the city of Veracruz. Live rhumba, marengue, Mariachi, Tejano, traditional harp, very cool. Cool

I would really love to spend about 6 months in Veracruz myself.
Cheers
