Hey thanks for postin. I hear that 8-9 million is a decent pay. Would this work out in West Sumatera? Anyone like Padang? Thanks.

5,000,000 plus shared house
air flight

Should I take the deal, haggle or run for my life? thanks.

Do you like rice?
Seriously, I don't think anyone who is qualified and knows how to teach should be considering positions like this one, however, there are some EF schools that are O.K. choices for those who'd like to experience the work and lifestyle to see if it suits them.
One thing i'd like to stress about positions like this is that you need to either have some money behind you or AT THE VERY LEAST make sure they get you a multiple entry visa. This way you can leave the country any time you want to.with only a single entry working permit YOU MUST HAVE YOUR EMPLOYERS PERMISSION TO LEAVE. If you find yourself hating the job then having to save to BUY YOUR WAY OUT OF THE CONTRACT ( that's right - bet they havent mentioned that yet), you really will be chowing down to the ol' nasi every night. I'm betting that the initial buy-out on a job like this will be TWICE the monthly salary.
How else can they encourage people to stay?

8 sounds better - that extra 3 is the difference between a crummy and a pleasant lifestyle ( tho maybe not in jakarta)
Indonesians aren't overtly hateful people - for sure they're sometimes racist but as often as not it's a 'friendly' racism that could work in your favour.
insofar as the global situation; of course most Indonesian people are muslims and so would morally align themselves against the Bush/Blair coalition but generally it's just big smiles all around.
An American i knew walked passed an Anti war demo in jakarta back in 2003: "did they give you any flack?" "Nope, not even a 'hello mister'"

Yes, they all wear T-shirts with the slogan: 'I hate Americans'. Seriously, they all wear these - even the kids.

Given the way that western countries have treated Asia over the past century or so, I'm pretty amazed at how much they DON'T hate us.
Back in britain, a car with Polish number plates would probly get trashed over night , just on suspicion that the owner might be working for less than minimum wage. And god help you if youre German when the football's on.
