Hi there you guys; finally hit 2,000 and wanted to say sorry for not posting much lately. I teach at 5 star hotels and companies here in Bangkok, and that usually means feast or famine - either we're really slow or really busy. At the moment, we're having a feast. Without further ado, here's a photo I took a few weeks ago. If anybody wants to add a photo, please do! Instructions for posting photos are located at the top of the Newbie Forum, or you can click here.

Here's a link to my gallery @ Flickr.

Excellent pics, I soon will join this new fangled digital photography thingy. I'm still SLR-ing, but maybe you can have digital SLRs ? I'm debating on either single frame or motion(not sure of the quality of single-framed shots from motion digital...
How many pixels ? When I was deciding which way to go a few years back, the average digital was about 3-4 mega-pixels. Do you still need F-stopping with digitals ?
Cheers

Looks like I'm even further behind than you in this new technology, because I don't even know what SLR is!

I tried a while back (on another of Kent's threads) to post a photo from Oman but had no luck. I'm sure I followed the instructions, but nothing happened. Sigh. Sometimes technology and I simply do not get along.

SLR is single lens reflex camera; the standard semi-professional camera.

I had a Nikon with autofocus that took superb shots and cost $400.

You can buy the same digitally but it will cost you around $1000. The good thing is that you can reuse all your lenses.

^ Hey

Now here's the shocker --- well, maybe.

The photo above (and all the photos in my gallery)

were taken with a Nokia mobile phone - i.e., the Nokia N73.

It has a Carl Zeiss 3.2 megapixel digital camera and a host of other gadgets,

including voice recognition software, MP3 player and an advanced web browser.

The Nokia N73 is currently selling for roughly US $400 - depending on where you buy it.

Just a few years ago I swore I'd never buy a mobile phone; now I'm hooked - a mobile geek. Laughing

^ Thanks a lot.

Entrailicus - Yes, you're welcome to link back to any of the photos.

Denise: Don't feel stupid - it took me a month to figure it out,

mostly trial and error and some help from another poster.

Just make sure the photo you're using ends with a .jpg

Sandwich the entire link between

with no spaces --- that should do the trick.

Great Photos Kent!

I'm sure you know, that great cameras don't take great photos, great photographers do. The key to getting good photos with any camara is knowing your camera well, and then taking shots within its limitations. Until motherhood spurred me into finally buying a digital, I used a point and shoot 35m camara my dad bought me for my 10th birthday (that was in 1982). It weighed a ton so I'm glad to be rid of it! Laughing though it did take me some great photos over the years.

Here's my flickr album if anyone is interested http://www.flickr.com/photos/meximeli/

I've never been able to get the type of shot's from a digital as I used to the film SLR (they do make digital SLRs but these tend to be the higher end 5000rmb plus). I find there's always a slight delay between the time you pess the shutter release to the time the shutter actually opens while it does it's thinking (autofocus, light metering etc). Also there's a delay before you can take the next shot for the same reason. Mine has a multi exposure feature but that only works on low res.
Mine gives me the option of shutter priority, aperture, full manual and full program.
It does give the option of focus lock, but got to be carefull to remember to unlock it.
I'm seriously considering getting a fully manual bog standard Nikon. Only two options, shutter speed and aperture and a built in light meter, though I can usually guess light values pretty close and bracket if I'm not sure.
I need to be thinking about the subject matter, not the mini computer in my hand.
Or maybe I just need to get more practice.
One advantage of the digital is that you can take as many shots as you like and simply delete the ones you don't want. (came home with 450 shots on Sunday, that's over 12 rolls of film)
Another thing I'm having trouble getting used to is composing the shot on the lcd screen as opposed to seeing only what will be in the picture (as you do looking through a viewfinder.) This also comes into play as my eyes ain't what they used to be either, so sometimes I need glasses to properly see the screen which isn't an issue with the view finder.
Just my experience but for what it's worth WW, I hope this helps.

^ Thank you Ahchoo, for the informative reply.

Melee; thank you for posting your Flickr link. You have a good eye.

I really liked the double rainbow on page 2 of your album.

I reduced it a little and uploaded it to Photobucket ...

so you can use it as an avatar if you want to?

Here's the new link; just copy & paste into your profile

What you don't like the beedog?

I just got a new computer at home WOOO WHOOO! So I'll be adding to my flickr album soon. I've been waiting for a change to choose a good recent photo of my girls to use as a new avatar, but in the mean time the rainbow will do.
