If anybody is interested in trading books, this site has just been set up to help people contact each other:
http://bookswapjapan.forumotion.com/
Could be useful for people who don't live in the big cities or don't want to spend a lot of money on books from overseas. |

did they give you a fair price for the books?
Not everyone likes them. Some people prefer the Blue Parrot in Takadanobaba. |

I sold a bunch to Good Day, and felt they gave me a decent price for what I sold.
I found Blue Parrot to be very unorganized, and somewhat difficult to find what I was looking for. |

does the Blue Parrot have a good selection of books?
I have heard Kanda and Jimbocho have good used bookstores, but I have never gone.
I have quite a few books I would like to sell, so I will try to get to Good Day sometime.
Don't use Book Off. My wife did. She just wanted to get rid of the books and didn't care that she didn't get much money back.

I was pleasantly surprised by Good Day's rate. I suppose I had expected less...
Thank you for suggesting the Blue Parrot, Brooks.
Good Day has what I want, anyway. Japanese language, culture, academic and novels. Unfortunately the literature is mixed in with the pulp. Shikata ga nai, I suppose. |

There are a lot of great used book stores in Kanda/Jimbocho, but a couple of the ones I really liked no longer sell much in English, and most of those that remain are very expensive.
If you consider yourself a bilbiophile, it is really worth checking out, but if you just want to fill up on paperbacks, Good Day is your best bet.
Still, the walk alone is worthwhile. When I used to visit Tokyo, I liked to walk from Akihabara to Kudanshita along Yasukuni-dori, taking my time along the way. |
