So thanks to information I've received from a handful of you all I'm well on my way to making it down to CR... thanks!!
Though it has been made clear that November/December is not the ideal time of year to be securing employment, my lease around here is running out and I'm just dying to get a move on! As such I will be roaming the countryside for three weeks in October prior to the beginning of my TESOL cert class (rain be damned and perhaps for a while after it's over and I'm looking for a job.
That being the case, would anyone like to throw out any suggestions as to how you might pass a few weeks time? Anywhere you particularly enjoy being in CR or perhaps close enough in Nica or Panama that one could take a bus? Music venues, social scene, art, anything is fine by me so long as it doesn't involve taking part in the gringo tourist industry!
The goal is to go to be in a number of different spots so I can get a good feel for where I might find a nice niche for myself. I'm all ears!

Dominical, south of Manuel Antonio, is pretty damn excellent. San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua is all right if you don't mind a slightly over-gringofied town. There's plenty of places on the Carribean side that will be happy to offer a hammock and something to read for a week or two. :)

I've been to several places in Costa Rica that are great:
La Fortuna/Volcan Arenal area--volcano, neat waterfall
Cahuita--SOOOOO relaxing on the Caribbean!
Monteverde--I was actually just there this weekend, and it was really great, although a rough ride to get there
Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste (there's another Playa Hermosa near Jac)--I haven't been to the other beaches in Guanacaste, but I've heard that they're really nice
Volcan Poas and Volcan Irazu are neat for day trips
Granada, Nicaragua is a really neat city |
