Travel and Leisure magazine did a feature on Nagaoka a few yers ago because one of the most famous Japanese designers, Yuji Yamamoto (sp?)is from there. I'm not sure of the exact date of the issue but maybe you could check the website. It looked like a nice place.

I'm living in Niigata-ken now--not in Nagaoka, though. If you've got any specific questions, PM me and I'll see if I can answer them. There are, of course, dozens/scores/hundreds of folks on this forum with more experience in Japan. I don't know how useful I can be...

I am currently living in Niigata. I have been teaching since 1991, eight years in Japan and the rest in the US. It is difficult finding a job in this area. Many part-time, but no full time. In other words, it is a drag since I really like and want to stay in the prefecture.....any advice?
